Lyrics

I hjertet av barlindå
Seidkona sover dypt
En eldgamle sorg hjemsøker
Hennes mørkeste drømmer
Barken tegnes på huden hennes
Hun blir en med liv og død
Hennes hår blir til greiner
Blåst i vinden og hagelstorm
Og fra hennes lukkede øyner
Gråter hun gyldne tårer
Sevjen dryper langs stammen
Fra hennes sårede sjel

Fra de omgivende skygger
Kommer hennes vardlokkur
De favner barlindå
Bringer lys i mørket
Trommer henne inn i reise
Til skjebnen's brønn ved de gamle røtter

Hun spinner de mørke skyer
Klarner opp den nordiske himmel
Åpner veien til stjerner
Gjenopplever solhjul's ilden
Våkner hennes kraft til liv

English translation:

In the heart of the yew tree,
The Seidkona (1) sleeps deeply
An ancient sorrow haunts
Her darkest dreams
The bark is being drawned on her skin
She becomes one with life and death
Her hair becomes the branches
Blown in the wind and the hail storm
And from her closed eyes,
She cries golden tears
like sap along the trunk of the tree
From her wounded soul

From the surrounding shadows
Come her vardlokkur (2)
They encircle the yew tree
Bring light in the darkness
Drumming her in a journey
To the well fate by the old roots

She (the seidkona) spins the dark clouds
Clear up the northern sky
Open the way to the stars
Revive the sunwheel fire
Awake her energy to life

(1): Seidkona "Seid-woman": female practitioner of seidr which is an old form of Norse sorcery.

(2): Vardlokkur "caller of spirits": A seidkona, or volve, had helpers who would sing to get her into trance and allow her to travel through the other worlds with the protection of the good spirits called upon. Note: this is my personal interpretation.
